NIJEC AI Usage Policy

At the NUML International Journal of Engineering and Computing (NIJEC), we recognize the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research and publishing. To ensure the integrity and credibility of scholarly work, the following policy outlines the acceptable use of AI tools and technologies by authors and peer reviewers.

Core Principles

  1. Accountability and Integrity
Authors and peer reviewers are solely responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the work they submit or evaluate.

  2. Transparency in AI Usage
The use of AI tools must be disclosed clearly and used in a transparent and responsible manner.

  3. Human Oversight
AI tools must not replace human judgment, authorship, or intellectual contribution. Instead, they may be used to support and enhance these processes.

Acceptable Use of AI

  • Permitted:
The use of generative AI tools (e.g., for grammar, structure, or clarity improvements) is allowed only for editing or refining the author’s own original content. This includes correcting grammar, enhancing clarity, and improving readability, provided the original ideas and structure remain unchanged.

  • Not Permitted:
The use of generative AI to createdraft, or generate any part of a submission, including abstracts, introductions, analyses, or conclusions, is strictly prohibited. Such usage undermines the originality and academic authorship required for publication.

Declaration Requirement

If AI tools have been used for editing purposes, authors must include a brief statement in the manuscript (e.g., in the acknowledgments or a footnote) specifying the tool used and the nature of its assistance.

Example: "The author used Grammarly to assist in language editing and clarity improvements. No content was generated using AI."

This policy aims to promote ethical AI usage while preserving the academic rigor and originality that NIJEC upholds.
